The founder of Facebook Mark Zuckenberg officially announced on the 21st of July that Facebook has reached the milestone of 500 million members.
I was about to create a poll but unfortunately it seems that I haven't got access to this option. Anyway that won't stop me from asking you:
* Do you have your own page at any social network (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)?
* Do you think social networks are useful or it's just a fancy trend of a century and it basically useless?
* Has engaging into social network influenced your life somehow?
Answers accompanied with comments are more than welcome. :D

Firstly I would like to draw your attention to the fact, that according to statistic outcomes, about 70% of internet users visit social networks. Therefore these internet resources are really popular. Nowadays megalopolis citizens can't have personal communication with all their friends and social networks enable their members to share news, music, photos, videos and others content. People just can use chat rooms for online conversation with a lot of friends. However, it is admitted that some internet users waste a lot of time drifting in the web. They become addicted to online communication. On the other hand, for some people the Internet gives the only opportunity to have contact with others. It concerns mainly disabled persons and elderly who don't have any possibilities to go out of doors.
Personally I don't have accounts on any social network and I prefer real communication, but to my mind everyone should pick out individual way for the human activity.

As for me I think that social networks are very interesting invention. I have my own pages in some social networks, and on a Facebook too. But it is a problem when some people start to use them very often and substitute a personal contact for the online communication. It is some kind of addiction. But if you use them only like the communicative means they are very convenient to use. I have a lot of friends who live far from me in the other cities and use social networks for communicating with them.

Besides a communication with friends and staying in touch with people who live abroad there are some aspects where the Facebook could be useful.
First of all it is a news feed where you can see the recent news from pages you like. It could be the latest news, top stories and all the changes in your friends' life. At the present time when you deal with a huge amount of information the news feed is a good funnel. For example I spend 5-10 minutes to get the information about people, things and events which are really interesting to me.

The second point is a community. It is like your private social network or subnetwork. If you are a creator (moderator) of a group or just a member you can easily communicate with the people with the same interest. Here you can create a meeting, post an article, discuss and so on.
Another way to use a Facebook is to promote your own ideas and businesses. One friend of mine is an event manager. She always uses a Facebook to invite people to her parties. Another friend sells a jewelry from her page on Facebook. So at these days Facebook becomes not only a social network but a marketplace too. 1 misused preposition
